fcron (sysutils/fcron) Add to my watchlist

fcron is an alternative scheduler aka cron daemon

fcron is a scheduler. It aims at replacing Vixie Cron, so it implements most of its functionalities. But contrary to Vixie Cron, fcron does not need your system to be up 7 days a week, 24 hours a day : it also works well with systems which are not running neither all the time nor regularly (contrary to anacrontab).

Port notes

Before starting fcron, create the configuration file ${prefix}/etc/fcron.conf by using ${prefix}/etc/fcron.conf.sample as a reference.

Before starting fcron, create the file ${prefix}/etc/fcron.allow by using ${prefix}/etc/fcron.allow.sample as a reference.

If you get errors while using 'fcrontab -e', you must have EDITOR set.
Try 'EDITOR=/usr/bin/vi fcrontab -e', if that works, set EDITOR in your
shells config. A startup item has been generated that will aid in starting fcron with launchd. It is disabled by default. Execute the following command to start it, and to cause it to launch at startup:

sudo port load fcron
