The GNU Readline library provides a set of functions for use by applications that allow users to edit command lines as they are typed in. Both Emacs and vi editing modes are available. The Readline library includes additional functions to maintain a list of previously-entered command lines, to recall and perhaps reedit those lines, and perform csh-like history expansion on previous commands.

To install readline, run the following command in macOS terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
sudo port install readline
To see what files were installed by readline, run:
port contents readline
To later upgrade readline, run:
sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade readline
Reporting an issue on MacPorts Trac
The MacPorts Project uses a system called Trac to file tickets to report bugs and enhancement requests.
Though anyone may search Trac for tickets, you must have a GitHub account in order to login to Trac to create tickets.
