It is written in Perl for maintainability, without paying a significant price for speed. It talks to MTA via (E)SMTP or LMTP, or by using helper programs. Best with Postfix, fine with dual-sendmail setup and Exim v4, works with sendmail/milter, or with any MTA as a SMTP relay. For Courier and qmail MTA integration there is a patch in the distributed package.

To install amavisd-new, run the following command in macOS terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
sudo port install amavisd-new
To see what files were installed by amavisd-new, run:
port contents amavisd-new
To later upgrade amavisd-new, run:
sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade amavisd-new
Reporting an issue on MacPorts Trac
The MacPorts Project uses a system called Trac to file tickets to report bugs and enhancement requests.
Though anyone may search Trac for tickets, you must have a GitHub account in order to login to Trac to create tickets.
