arti's configuration file is:

${prefix}/etc/arti/arti.toml

MacPorts installs it on first activation only, and never modifies or removes
it thereafter, so your edits are preserved across upgrades. Additional .toml
fragments may be placed in ${prefix}/etc/arti/arti.d/; those are
read after arti.toml and take precedence over it.

The fully-commented reference configuration, documenting every option arti
supports, is installed at:

${prefix}/share/doc/arti/examples/arti-example-config.toml

To run arti as a service, use `port load`, as follows:

$ sudo port load arti

Once enabled, the service will:

- run as the '_arti' user

- listen for SOCKS connections on localhost:9150
(the 'tor' port uses 9050, so the two can be run side by side)

- log to: ${prefix}/var/log/arti/arti.log

- keep persistent state in: ${prefix}/var/lib/arti

- keep its directory cache in: ${prefix}/var/cache/arti

IMPORTANT: ${prefix}/var/lib/arti holds arti's entry guard
selection and its keystore, including the identity keys of any onion services
you run. None of it is regenerable. Deleting it, or relocating it by setting
storage.state_dir yourself, will reset your entry guards and will give every
onion service you host a new .onion address. Back it up, and otherwise leave
it alone.

By contrast, ${prefix}/var/cache/arti holds only the
downloaded Tor directory consensus, and may be safely deleted at any time. A startup item has been generated that will aid in starting arti with launchd. It is disabled by default. Execute the following command to start it, and to cause it to launch at startup:
