uchardet is an encoding detector library and command-line tool which takes a sequence of bytes in an unknown character encoding without any additional information, and attempts to determine the encoding of the text. Returned encoding names are iconv-compatible.

To install uchardet, run the following command in macOS terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
sudo port install uchardet
To see what files were installed by uchardet, run:
port contents uchardet
To later upgrade uchardet, run:
sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade uchardet
Reporting an issue on MacPorts Trac
The MacPorts Project uses a system called Trac to file tickets to report bugs and enhancement requests.
Though anyone may search Trac for tickets, you must have a GitHub account in order to login to Trac to create tickets.
