Socket(1) implements an interface to TCP sockets at shell level. Client and server sockets can be used from shell scripts or interactively. Socket can also run a program with stdin, stdout, and stderr connected to the socket connection. A number of sample shell scripts are included.

To install socket, run the following command in macOS terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
sudo port install socket
To see what files were installed by socket, run:
port contents socket
To later upgrade socket, run:
sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade socket
Reporting an issue on MacPorts Trac
The MacPorts Project uses a system called Trac to file tickets to report bugs and enhancement requests.
Though anyone may search Trac for tickets, you must have a GitHub account in order to login to Trac to create tickets.
