Serpent is a simple serialization library based on ast.literal_eval. Because it only serializes literals and recreates the objects using ast.literal_eval(), the serialized data is safe to transport to other machines (over the network for instance) and de-serialize it there.

To install py27-serpent, run the following command in macOS terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
sudo port install py27-serpent
To see what files were installed by py27-serpent, run:
port contents py27-serpent
To later upgrade py27-serpent, run:
sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade py27-serpent
Reporting an issue on MacPorts Trac
The MacPorts Project uses a system called Trac to file tickets to report bugs and enhancement requests.
Though anyone may search Trac for tickets, you must have a GitHub account in order to login to Trac to create tickets.
