libao is a way to easily add cross-platform audio output to your program. Output devices are implemented as dynamic plugins, and OSS, ESD, ALSA, aRTs, PulseAudio, Solaris, and Irix outputs are currently supported.

To install libao, run the following command in macOS terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
sudo port install libao
To see what files were installed by libao, run:
port contents libao
To later upgrade libao, run:
sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade libao
Reporting an issue on MacPorts Trac
The MacPorts Project uses a system called Trac to file tickets to report bugs and enhancement requests.
Though anyone may search Trac for tickets, you must have a GitHub account in order to login to Trac to create tickets.
