The intltool collection can be used to extract translatable strings from various source files (.xml.in, .glade, .desktop.in, .server.in, .oaf.in), collect the extracted strings together with messages from traditional source files (.c, .h) in po/PACKAGE.pot and merge back the translations from .po files into .xml, .desktop and .oaf files. This merge step will happen at build or installation time.

To install intltool, run the following command in macOS terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
sudo port install intltool
To see what files were installed by intltool, run:
port contents intltool
To later upgrade intltool, run:
sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade intltool
Reporting an issue on MacPorts Trac
The MacPorts Project uses a system called Trac to file tickets to report bugs and enhancement requests.
Though anyone may search Trac for tickets, you must have a GitHub account in order to login to Trac to create tickets.
