The Fowler/Noll/Vo hashes are designed to be fast while maintaining a low collision rate. The FNV speed allows one to quickly hash lots of data while maintaining a reasonable collision rate. The high dispersion of the FNV hashes makes them well suited for hashing nearly identical strings such as URLs, hostnames, filenames, text, IP addresses, etc.

To install fnv, run the following command in macOS terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
sudo port install fnv
To see what files were installed by fnv, run:
port contents fnv
To later upgrade fnv, run:
sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade fnv
Reporting an issue on MacPorts Trac
The MacPorts Project uses a system called Trac to file tickets to report bugs and enhancement requests.
Though anyone may search Trac for tickets, you must have a GitHub account in order to login to Trac to create tickets.
